RM, 슈가, 뷔, 지민, 정국이 차례로 입대하며 진과 제이홉에 이어 병역 의무를 이행한 가운데, 전 세계 팬들은 2025년 6월을 손꼽아 기다리고 있다.

BTS 멤버들은 18개월간의 군 복무를 마치고 2025년 6월 전역을 완료할 예정이다. 이는 2022년 12월 진의 입대 이후 약 2년 6개월 만의재결합이자, BTS의 마지막 정규 앨범 ‘BE’ 이후 5년 만의 완전체 활동이다. ‘BE’는 발매 당시 빌보드 200 1위에 오르며 BTS의 글로벌위상을 다시 한번 입증했고, 수록곡 ‘Dynamite’와 ‘Life Goes On’은 빌보드 핫100 차트 1위를 기록하며 세계적인 돌풍을 일으켰다. 이후‘Permission to Dance’와 ‘Butter’ 역시 잇따라 정상을 차지하며 글로벌 슈퍼스타로서의 입지를 굳혔다.

RM은 군 복무 중에도 팬들에게 마음을 전해왔다. 위버스에 남긴 손편지에서 그는 “멤버들이 너무 보고 싶다”며 “여러분도 그렇죠? 멤버들과 직접 얼굴을 맞대고 얘기하다 보니, 변하지 않는 것들과 돌아가야 할 자리가 있다는 걸 다시금 느꼈다”고 말했다. 이어 “내년 여름이 기다려진다”며 “많은 분들이 여전히 우리를 기다려주고 사랑해주고 있다는 걸 느꼈다. 넘치는 사랑에 감사하며, 변함없이 멤버들을 생각하며하루하루 잘 보내겠다”고 덧붙였다.

2024년 12월: j-hope “BTS로 다시 모이는 순간, 큰 임팩트가 될 것”

j-hope은 위버스 매거진과의 인터뷰에서 완전체 재결합에 대한 기대를 솔직하게 전했다. 그는 “각자 작은 프로젝트들을 해오다 이제 다시함께 모이게 됐는데, 그게 참 좋다”고 밝혔다. 이어 “앞으로 BTS로서 나아갈 길은, 우리 개개인의 색깔과 팀으로서의 색깔을 어떻게 조화롭게 이어갈지에 대한 고민이 필요하다고 생각한다”고 말했다.

2024년 12월: RM “각자의 시간, 결국 팀에 좋은 영향 줄 것”

RM은 다큐멘터리 ‘Right Place, Wrong People’ 관련 Q&A에서 솔로 활동의 의미를 전하며 “자유롭게, 솔직하게 활동할 수 있는 시간이 팀에 좋은 영향을 줄 것이라 믿는다”고 말했다. 이어 “모든 일에는 이유가 있다고 생각한다. 지금 내가 가는 길도, 그 과정에서 얻은 경험도 팀으로 다시 돌아왔을 때 좋은 영향으로 작용할 거라고 믿는다. 결국 소중함은 잃어봐야 깨닫게 되고, 입어봐야 벗을 수 있는 법이다. 이번에는 잠시 그 옷을 벗어보려 한다”고 덧붙였다.

2025년 1월: 지민 “솔직히 조금은 무섭기도 해요”

지민은 위버스를 통해 팬들에게 편지를 남기며 솔직한 마음을 전했다. 특히 정국과 함께 군 복무 중 나눈 대화에 대해 언급하며 “정국이랑자기 전에 나누는 대화들이 많이 달라졌다. 아미를 다시 만날 날이 점점 다가오면서, 우리가 어떤 준비를 해야 할지, 어떤 모습을 보여주고싶을지, 앞으로 어떻게 살아갈지에 대한 얘기를 많이 한다”고 밝혔다. 이어 “솔직히 조금은 무섭다. 오랜만에 멤버들과 함께 무대에 서는 것이고, 나 자신도 음악과 무대에 온전히 몰입했던 때로부터 시간이 많이 흘렀다. 그래도 우리를 기다려준 아미 여러분께 최고의 무대를 보여주겠다는 각오는 변함이 없다”고 전했다.

2025년 4월: j-hope “BTS의 에너지는 엄청날 것”

Apple Music 1의 Zane Lowe와의 인터뷰에서 j-hope은 완전체 복귀에 대한 기대감을 솔직히 드러냈다. 그는 “6월에 멤버들이 복무를마치면 빨리 모여서 앞으로 BTS가 무엇을 할 수 있을지 이야기하고 싶다”며 “BTS로 뭉쳤을 때의 에너지는 엄청날 것”이라고 말했다. 이어“각자의 음악 작업과 솔로 활동을 통해 우리만의 색깔이 더 선명해졌다. 이제 이 다채로운 색들이 모여 BTS라는 이름 아래 어떤 시너지를낼지 나도 정말 궁금하다”고 덧붙였다.

진은 NBC의 The Tonight Show에 출연해 멤버들을 향한 애정을 드러냈다. 그는 “혼자 있는 시간도 좋았지만, 이제 멤버들이 돌아오면그들이 얼마나 열심히 해왔는지 알고 있기에 존중과 감사의 마음으로 맞이하고 싶다”고 말했다. 이어 “멤버들은 나에게 생명의 은인과도 같은 존재다. 그들에게 고마움을 표현하고 잘 챙겨주고 싶다”고 덧붙였다.

Ever since RM, Suga, V, Jimin and Jung Kook became the last members of BTS to enlist in the South Korean military — following Jin and j-hope months prior — fans have been counting down the days until June 2025. 

That’s because after 18 months of required service, the final five Bangtan Boys will finally have completed their obligations to their country, free at last to return to civilian life with their bandmates — and, as promised, to reunite as a septet more than two years after Jin became the first to enlist in December 2022. Their next chapter will also come a full five years after the release of BTS’ last proper studio album, Be, which debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 and allowed the group to explode into crossover superstar status; “Dynamite” and “Life Goes On” from the LP both became Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hits, setting the stage for “Permission to Dace” and “Butter” to later reach the top spot.

But while having to step away at the very height of their popularity should have killed their momentum, all seven of the bandmates were able to keep the train moving by releasing solo projects during their time apart. From standalone singles to EPs and full-blown albums, along with collaborations with other major stars, each member of the group has gotten the chance to step into their own as soloists and come out stronger with heightened senses of their own artistry.

Now, the only question on ARMY’s mind is: What’s next? There’s no telling what the future holds for BTS once the group does reunite, and details about the actual logistics of the reunion have remained minimal. June 2024: RM says he’s “looking forward” to reuniting

During his time in the military, RM penned a heartfelt letter to ARMY on Weverse describing how much he missed his bandmates — and how excited he was to get the band back together. “I miss the members so much,” he wrote. “I bet you do too … When we actually talked face to face, I realized again the things that never change, the place I had to return to.”

Adding that he was “looking forward to next summer,” he said of reuniting, “I just realized that many people still haven’t forgotten us and are waiting for us and loving us. Overflowing love. As always, I will just think of the members and spend each day well.”

December 2024: j-hope shares his hopes for the reunion

In an interview with Weverse Magazine, j-hope talked extensively about reuniting with his bandmates. “After pursuing our own little ventures, we are now coming back together, and I love that for us,” he told the publication. “With that in mind, I believe the next step for BTS is to think about how we can balance our individual colors with the team without diminishing our individual colors and identities.”

“There are certainly things we need to do as BTS,” he continued. “When we’re all back together as a group, it’s going to have a huge impact, and everybody’s going to be watching. I’m excited to see what it’ll feel like when we perform together again. I want to come back in style and say, ‘This is us. This is BTS.’ I can’t speak for everyone, but I can tell you the other members feel the same way.”

December 2024: RM talks about the “good influence” of their time apart

During a Q&A about his Right Place, Wrong People documentary, RM shared why he thinks his solo projects would be beneficial to BTS’ eventual reunion. “I believe that the experience of being able to be completely free and honest will have a good influence on our team when BTS transitions to the next chapter,” he said, according to People. 

“I believe that everything happens for a reason, so I think I am driving in the right direction, and that those events are bound to have a good influence when we come back together,” he continued. “That’s the way I live, knowing that you realize what’s precious after losing it and that you can only take off something after you’ve tried it on. So I’m going to try to take it off this time.”

January 2025: Jimin admits he’s “a bit scared”

According to Koreaboo, Jimin shared a letter with fans on Weverse sharing his feelings on the approaching reunion — something he said he often spoke with Jungkook about while the pair were enlisted together. “The conversations Jungkook and I have before going to bed have changed a lot,” Jimin wrote. “Since the days when we can meet ARMY are getting closer and closer, we’ve been talking a lot about what we need to prepare before we see you again, what kind of image we want to show and what kind of life we’ll live moving forward.”

“To be honest, there’s also a little fear,” he continued. “It’s been quite some time since we all performed together, and it’s been a while since I’ve fully devoted myself to music and the stage. So, I do feel a bit scared, but my determination to give you the best stage possible, for all of you who have waited for us, has not wavered.”

April 2025: j-hope says the reunion will have “massive energy”

During a sit-down conversation with Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe, j-hope got candid about his expectations for the reunion. “I look forward to June when our members will have completed their service,” he said at the time, according to a close-captioned translation. “We will quickly get together and talk about what BTS can do in the future.”

“I think it’s going to be a massive energy,” he added. “I’m curious to see how it’ll look like.”

The star also shared his thoughts on how everyone’s solo work will fuel the band’s next chapter. “I think that over time, we each refined our unique identities as each of us work on their own music, come out with their solo projects and do their own thing,” j-hope told Lowe. “The funny thing for me is when our identities, which have taken shape in various ways, come together as BTS.”

May 2025: Jin is ready to reunite

While guesting on The Tonight Show, Jin said he was looking forward to welcoming his bandmates home after their enlistments. “It was great to be alone,” he told host Jimmy Fallon. “But when they come back, since they worked very hard, I’m going to honor them and give them great respect.”

“They are my lifesavers, so I need to show my appreciation and take care of them,” he added.
